Food Lion In MD Recalls Vegetables Over Listeria Contamination

MARYLAND — The Food Lion grocery chain in Maryland has recalled some mixed vegetables and sweet corn products because of the risk of listeria contamination, according to the retailer.
Food Lion said the affected products are the 16-ounce Food Lion Mixed Vegetables and the 16-ounce Food Lion Super Sweet Cut Corn.

The grocery chain noted that the recall affects the mixed vegetables that were sold between Jan. 19, 2023 and Aug. 19, 2023. The affected sweet corn was sold between Nov. 7, 2022, and Aug. 19, 2023.

The universal product code can be found with the barcode. The affected products had codes "0003582600509," and "0003582607985."

Customers with the affected vegetables should return it to their local Food Lion for a refund equal to double the purchase price, per the store chain, which offers a "double your money back" guarantee on its items.

Healthy people who eat listeria-contaminated products typically experience no or only short-term symptoms, including a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abominable pain and diarrhea; it also may cause miscarriage or stillbirth among pregnant women.

Serious and sometimes fatal infections can occur in young children, frail or older people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Each year, about 1,600 people contract listeriosis. About 260 people die from the infection, the Centers for Disease Control said.

Due to the possible effects of Listeria contamination, Food Lion is urging customers not to consume the items that may be affected.
