Museum Day: Free Admission At These Maryland Institutes
Smithsonian Magazine's 18th annual Museum Day is Saturday, Sept. 17 and gives free access for one day to museums in Maryland and nationwide.

MARYLAND — From the space program to maritime artifacts to local history, gather your family and friends this weekend to learn something with free admission at Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum and several others in Maryland.
Smithsonian Magazine’s 18th annual Museum Day will take place Sept. 17 at select museums in Maryland and in other cities across the country.
This year’s theme, “Experience America,” celebrates “the return to, and resurgence of, our country's diverse cultural experiences,” following closures due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a news release.

These are some of the museums in Maryland participating in this year’s Museum Day:
- Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum, 813 S. Atlantic Ave., Ocean City
- Riversdale House Museum, 4811 Riverdale Road, Riverdale Park
- Historic London Town and Gardens, 839 Londontown Road, Edgewater
- Furnace Town Historic Site, 3816 Old Furnace Road, Snow Hill
- Baltimore Museum of Industry, 1415 Key Highway, Baltimore
- Museum of Historic Annapolis, 99 Main St., Annapolis
- B&O Railroad Museum, Baltimore
- Chesapeake Children's Museum, Annapolis
- Piney Point Lighthouse Museum, Piney Point
- St. Clement's Island Museum, 38370 Point Breeze Road, Colton's Point
- The purpose of Museum Day, according to a release, is to promote equal access to the wide array of museums in the United States, especially among children and underrepresented communities.
Museum-goers can head to the Museum Day website to download their ticket. Each ticket grants the ticket holder and one guest free, timed access to any participating museum. One ticket is permitted per email address; each ticket admits two people to a venue on Saturday.

Some museums require a printed ticket, while others allow electronic tickets. If a printed ticket is required, you’ll see an asterisk under the museum address stating **printed ticket required.
