Hey Rockville, Turn Off Your Lights

Earth Hour is 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Will you be turning off your lights?

In recognition of a global movement, Rockville residents are invited to turn off their lights for an hour Saturday starting at 8:30 p.m., what is known as Earth Hour.

The mayor and council presented an official Earth Hour proclamation on Monday.

Mark Charles, Chief of Environmental Management, said the lights would go out at the following city sites:

  • Glenview Mansion
  • Fitzgerald Theater
  • Croydon Creek Nature Center
  • Recreation Services Building

Coordinated by the World Wildlife Federation, Earth Hour is a symbolic global event meant to show concern about the environment. The WWF estimates that millions of people in 7,001 cities and towns across 152 countries participate each year.
