County-Based Businesses Recognized For COVID-19 Relief Efforts

ROCKVILLE, MD — Nearly two dozen Montgomery County-based companies are being recognized by the state for their contributions to COVID-19 relief efforts.

They join more than 200 other companies in Maryland that are manufacturing personal protective equipment (PPE) for hospital staff, developing vaccines and treatments for sick patients, and raising money for cash-strapped families.

In a statement released Monday, Gov. Larry Hogan commended the companies for stepping "up to the plate" and demonstrating "what it means to be Maryland Strong."

"During one of the most daunting challenges of our lifetime, businesses of all sizes have stepped up to the plate by volunteering their time, labor, and resources," the Republican governor said. "From sewing face masks, manufacturing personal protective equipment, delivering meals to front line workers, and donating to COVID-19 relief funds, Maryland's business community has truly risen to the challenge and demonstrated what it means to be Maryland Strong."

VASHAN COMPOUNDING PHARMACY | GAITHERSBURG

• This company is working with other state wineries, distilleries, and a pharmacy to produce 300 gallons of hand sanitizer each week.

JOOLA | ROCKVILLE

• This sporting goods manufacturer is making PPE for health care workers and the general public.

POTOMAC PIZZA | POTOMAC, ROCKVILLE, CHEVY CHASE

• This restaurant is giving away free pizza to health care workers. The owner has also raised $40,000 for COVID-19 relief.

HOBIE AND ALICIA COHEN | GAITHERSBURG

• This couple is using their 3D printer to make face shields for local hospitals.

MARRIOTT | BETHESDA

• This hospitality corporation is teaming up with American Express Co. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. to provide about 100,000 rooms to medical workers.

LOVE COUTURE BRIDAL | POTOMAC

• This bridal boutique is manufacturing and donating face masks to hospitals.

LOCKHEED MARTIN | BETHESDA

• This defense contractor has committed more than $18 million to the CDC, the Red Cross, and other local initiatives; donated 10,000 meals and hundreds of PPE to medical workers; and spent nearly $200,000 to enable the distribution of technology devices and WiFi hotspots to hundreds of students.
