Overnight Search Fails To Find Man With Dementia: Police

BELTSVILLE, MD — Authorities are searching for a man missing from Beltsville who is the brother of a retired Montgomery County firefighter. With the cold temperatures in the region, police say it is critical that they find Daniel Dehaven, 65, who was last seen at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was at a Costco in the 10900 block of Baltimore Ave. in Beltsville, officials said.

Prince George's County Police said Dehaven's brother is extremely concerned about his welfare. Dehaven suffers from dementia and is not able to communicate, police said.

Dehaven is 5'9", weighs 175 pounds and has brown eyes and partially gray hair. He was last seen wearing a black coat, blue jeans and a gray hat. Dehaven did not have identification on him when he disappeared, police said.

"With current freezing temperatures, we have dedicated around-the-clock manpower to this active investigation, but so far we have been unable to locate him," police said.

Prince George's County Police officers, detectives, K-9 units, the aviation unit, and additional law enforcement agencies searched for Dehaven throughout the night. Residents and local businesses are asked to be on the lookout.

Police received a tip that Dehaven may have been sighted in downtown Silver Spring and searched the area without success. Montgomery County Police and several other area jurisdictions are assisting in the search for Dehaven.

As a reminder, with current freezing temperatures, police ask all residents to watch out for one another. Check on elderly neighbors and take extra precautions with anyone in your care who may require extra attention like making sure they have identification on them.
