Marissa Valeri Kicks Off Campaign For Rockville City Council

ROCKVILLE, MD — Long-time Montgomery County resident and community leader Marissa Valeri kicked off her campaign on July 22 as a candidate for one of the six open seats on the Rockville City Council.

At a gathering with dozens of supporters from across the city, Valeri touted her passion for "rolling up her sleeves" and working on behalf of Rockville residents. She also stressed her commitment to public safety and her experience working with others to create a thriving community, according to a campaign release.

Born and raised in Wheaton, Valeri is a graduate of Albert Einstein High School and the University of Maryland Global Campus.

Valeri is a physician outreach specialist at the Montgomery County Medical Society and has worked in the nonprofit sector for more that 25 years.

Co-founder of Rockville Pedestrian Advisory Committee and past president of the Twinbrook Community Association, Valeri was also a member of the recent Charter Review Commission for the City of Rockville.

As the only candidate running who lives on the east side of Rockville, Valeri would be the first council member from the Twinbrook neighborhood in 16 years.

Rockville City residents will be casting ballots by mail for mayor and six councilmembers in the upcoming election.

As of June 7, Valeri was one of nine candidates certified to run in the city council race. The other candidates are Kate Fulton, Harold Hodges, Barry Jackson, Ricky Mui, incumbent David Myles, Paul Scott, Izola Shaw, and Adam Van Grack. Incumbent Councilmembers Monique Ashton and Mark Pierzchala are also certified to run in the mayor's race.

Candidates must be nominated for the position they are running for and turn in a nominating petition by Sept. 8. Each candidate must be 18 or older and a resident of Rockville City at least one year prior to the Nov. 7 election. More information about how to be a candidate is available online.

Key Election Dates

  • Oct. 13, 2023: Ballots mailed to registered voters on or before Oct. 13.
  • Oct. 17, 2023: Deadline to register to vote or update voter registration.
  • Nov. 7, 2023: Election Day. Completed ballots must be received by 8 p.m., in person at City Hall or by mail.
