MCPS Discusses Back-To-School Options; Parents Asked To Weigh In

ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County school officials are considering three back-to-school options for the upcoming academic year.

One option involves some face-to-face instruction and some remote learning. Another consists of reopening schools with restrictions (i.e., social distancing, improved hygiene requirements). And the third has students learning online — a model MCPS has been following since Maryland schools shut down in March.

To help them decide, MCPS officials are asking parents to fill out an online survey.

"Our goal is to identify solutions that make transitions to and from remote learning and a return to in-person instruction, as seamless as possible," MCPS said. "We are seeking information on the impact of remote learning on families to help inform a plan to meet the needs of our community. Your responses, along with those of other families, will help MCPS as it makes important decisions about the next school year."

The school district said the survey takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Answers must be submitted by 7 p.m. on July 8 to be considered.
