7News reports that public records requested by a parents group show that MCPS is paying a former employee $130 an hour for pandemic PR help.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Montgomery County Public Schools hired a former employee to help part-time with pandemic-related public relations and is paying her $130 an hour, according to public records obtained by the Parents' Coalition of Montgomery County and reported by 7News. The parents group questioned if the hiring of Aggie Alvez — who was the director of communications and partnerships for MCPS from 1999 to 2010 — is the best use of funds for MCPS.

"The pandemic's complexities both elevated the importance of clear communication and posed difficulties in its execution," said Chris Cram, the director of MCPS' office of communications, in an email to 7News. "When Dr. McKnight became interim superintendent under this context, community members and staff identified a need to enhance systemwide collaboration and coordination in support of students, schools, and communities."
