Montgomery County Memorial Day: Everything You Need To Know

Montgomery County cities will host Memorial Day events from parades to the Field of Honor.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Memorial Day is approaching and planners in Montgomery County are getting ready to host events to honor those who died while serving for the United States.

Montgomery County's annual events return for people to pay tribute. There will be several parades, along with the Field of Honor in Bohrer Park, where residents can buy a flag to display in honor of one of their own personal heroes.

Rockville Memorial Day Ceremony And Parade

A musical tribute from the Rockville Concert Band and Chorus will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. and the beginning of the parade at 10: 30 a.m.

"The parade was founded in 1944 by William (Bill) Wood," the city of Rockville says on its website. "Today the parade features more than 50 units including military and community groups, marching units, dance troupes and more."

Parade Route: N. Washington Street beginning at Martins Lane, heads south on N. Washington Street, takes a left onto Beall Ave., a right on Maryland Avenue through Rockville Town Square and then a left onto E. Montgomery Ave. Download the route map from the city.

Parking: Paid $5 parking is available in the Rockville Town Square garage located off Route 355 or North Washington Street from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Memorial Day.

Gaithersburg Memorial Day Observance

A former Major General from the United States Army will speak at the ceremony, which will include wreath-laying, the Cadet Color Guard of Gaithersburg High School, and the national anthem, and a local high school student playing "Taps."

"At the event, guests will be invited to fill out a card & provide a 4x6 photograph for a Book of Tribute, honoring friends & family members who serve," the city of Gaithersburg says on its website.

Flags For Our Heroes

Bohrer Park
Opening Ceremony - May 28 at 11 a.m.
Closing Ceremony - May 30 at 4 p.m.

Residents can sponsor a flag displayed at Bohrer Park to honor someone who has inspired them. Sponsor a flag through the Rotary Club's website.
