Montgomery County To Unveil Veterans Memorial Wall

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall is a tribute to the 130 residents from Montgomery County who were killed or reported missing in the war.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will unveil the Montgomery County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall at a dedication ceremony with local officials and Vietnam War era veterans Monday afternoon.

The Montgomery County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall is a tribute to the 130 residents from Montgomery County who were killed or reported missing in action during the Vietnam War.

Records show these men and women as enlisting, being originally from, or having at one time living in Montgomery County.

One of these residents was Air Force Capt. George R. Andrews, 25, of Glen Echo Heights. He graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 1961 and the University of Maryland with a degree in engineering in 1966.

Andrews died while missing after his place crashed in Kien Tuong Province, South Vietnam, while he was protecting South Vietnamese river boats on his second tour of duty in 1969, records show.

Air Force Lt. Col. Terrin Dinsmore Hicks, 41, of Silver Spring died in a combat-related air plane crash in North Vietnam in 1968. Hicks graduated Montgomery Blair High School in 1954. He was assigned to 14th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, 432nd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing and the 7th Air Force.

Each of the County’s fallen or missing heroes will be honored for their sacrifice and service to our country at the ceremony. There will also be a wreath-laying ceremony and remarks from Vietnam veterans.

The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. at Memorial Plaza in Rockville.
