No Charges Against MoCo Deputies In Fatal Rockville Crash

The MD attorney general said no charges will be filed against two deputies in an April 27 police-involved fatal crash in Montgomery County.

ROCKVILLE, MD — The Maryland attorney general's office said Wednesday that no charges will be filed against two deputies in an April 27 police-involved fatal crash in Montgomery County. The attempted traffic stop ended in a crash that claimed the life of an Adelphi woman.

According to Attorney General Anthony Brown, Montgomery County deputies Connor Clifford and Paul Nelson were patrolling near Rockville Pike and Flanders Avenue shortly when a Dodge sedan sped by them.

After activating their emergency lights and siren, prosecutors said the deputies came upon a two-car crash near the intersection of Rockville Pike and Twinbrook Parkway while attempting to locate the Dodge. According to investigators, the driver of the Dodge had collided with a Honda sedan as its driver turned southbound on Rockville Pike.

The Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division began investigating the fatal pursuit incident on April 27, and concluded its investigation on Aug. 7. The Office of the Attorney General determined the officers did not commit a crime under Maryland law and Brown has declined to prosecute either of the officers in this case.
