Police: Arrests Made in Twinbrook Metro Purse Snatchings

Man, woman arrested Friday in connection with three separate incidents

A man and a woman were arrested Friday after three women were hit and then robbed of their handbags near Twinbrook Metro station earlier this month.

Jermaine Huntley Jr., 23, of an unknown address, and Maria Engrasia Sandoval Bonilla, 20, of Rockville were charged with three counts of robbery, three counts of second-degree assault, three counts of conspiracy to commit second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit robbery and multiple counts of theft and illegal use of credit cards.

The first incident was reported at around 8 p.m. Dec. 5 near Ridgeway Avenue and Lemay Road. A woman walking home from the Twinbrook Metro Station was approached from behind by a person who struck her, knocked her to the ground and ran off with her purse.

The second incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. Dec. 7 near Stanley Avenue and Matthews Drive. A woman was walking when a person approached her from behind, struck her and made off with her purse. 

The third incident occurred about 8:45 p.m. Dec. 8 near Lemay Road and Holland Road. A woman was walking when a she was approached from behind and knocked to the ground. The robber grabbed her purse, dragging the woman until the purse was freed.

Police said evidence from the Dec. 5 incident was recovered from the suspects' vehicle and from a suspect's relative's home in Rockville. 

Huntley is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center on $250,000 bond. Sandoval Bonilla was released on her own recognizance.
