Police Charge 16-Year-Old With Burglary
Homeowner identified boy using surveillance camera video.

Rockville police have charged a 16-year-old with burglary after a homeowner identified the boy from a surveillance video that showed someone entering and removing items from a Lewis Avenue home.
Police declined to name the 16-year-old because he is a juvenile. He is charged Dec. 30 with one count each of first-degree burglary and theft under $1,000.
Police were called to the home in the 1800 block of Lewis Avenue, about 7 p.m. on Dec. 20, according to a city news release.

The homeowner was the victim of an unrelated burglary in 2009 and had later installed security cameras, the release said. The homeowner reviewed video from the cameras, which police say showed the suspect enter the home about 2 p.m. on Dec. 20 through an unlocked window and later exit through the back door.
A video gaming console and assorted video games were taken from the home, the release said. The homeowner's family members identified the suspect on the security video.

A search of his home found items taken from the Lewis Avenue burglary, the release said.
Rockville City Police interviewed the 16-year-old, who provided a full confession, the release said. The boy also was wanted on juvenile arrest charges for failing to appear in court for a charge of a minor in possession of alcohol.
The state Department of Juvenile Justice transported the boy to a juvenile detention facility for processing of that warrant.
