Potential For Serious Flooding In Montgomery County: Forecast

The forecast calls for lots and lots of rain in Montgomery County this week.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Have you enjoyed all the rain we got over the weekend? If so, good, because you're about to get a lot more of it.

Forecasts call for continued rain throughout this week, which will create a potentially serious flooding risk for the Montgomery County area, according to the forecasts from the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang and the National Weather Service.

The greatest threat comes midweek, but it will get started on Monday with some intermittent downpours in the morning that will intensify as the day progresses, with some heavy showers in the evening.

At least that means the weather will be relatively cool, with highs around 80 degrees.

The rainy and stormy weather will continue into Tuesday, as will temperatures in the 70s up to around 80 degrees. Wednesday should be the last day where significant rainfall and flooding threaten the region. Temperatures should once again be around 80 with lows dipping into the low to mid 70s.

Those three days together will result in problems.

"The Washington region transforms into a tropical rain forest for the next several days with drenching downpour after drenching downpour," CWG says in their forecast.

A recent flash drought dried us out somewhat, but the rain we've gotten in the last few days have brought us back to a surplus of moisture and that means a flooding risk with the ground saturated. We could get several inches or more of rain throughout the week -- up to 10 inches, in fact.

Thursday and Friday will by much more dry, but a shower or two is possible. Temperatures will rise in to the high 80s.

The weekend is a bit more tricky to predict, but a front may be rolling through, bringing more showers with it.

So keep that umbrella handy this week.
