ROCKVILLE, MD — Fourth of July celebrations are right around the corner. Here's what is coming up around Rockville this year for Independence Day.

Rockville's Independence Day Celebration is celebrating its fourth year at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park in King Farm, located at 1800 Piccard Dr.

  • The Nighthawks at 7 p.m.
  • Mayor and Council Greeting at 8:45 p.m.
  • National Anthem at 8:55 p.m.
  • Fireworks Display at 9:15 p.m.

Things to know:

  • No barbecuing or open flames allowed at the event site
  • Recycle and garbage bins are located throughout the event
  • Lost children should be taken to the first aid tent located along Piccard Dr.
  • Please be courteous of those around you when smoking

Viewing Areas:

The entertainment and fireworks can be viewed from the park grounds. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and food and beverage.

Parking:

Parking is available for free in lots along Shady Grove Road, Gaither Road and Choke Cherry Road. These lots are conveniently located near the event site. There is no parking available in the King Farm neighborhood. Use main roads such at Route 355, Gude Drive, and Shady Grove Road to access these parking lots. Signs will direct people to public parking.

Food and Beverage:

Food and beverage will be available for purchase from several food vendors. Guests may also bring their own food and beverage. Please note that there is no barbecuing or open flames allowed on the event site.

Here's a list of what's planned around Montgomery County on the Fourth of July:

  • In Germantown, the South Germantown Regional Park, 18401 Central Park Circle, Germantown (Boyds), is the place to hear live music and to see the fireworks. The Germantown Glory celebration begins at 7 p.m. with a concert and the fireworks should go off around 9:15 p.m. The concert features Gringo Jingo and Quiet Fire. Follow signs for free on-site parking. Low lawn chairs, blankets and coolers are welcome at both events. Food vendors will be on site. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted. The rain date for fireworks only is July 5.
  • In Kensington, enjoy the 23rd Annual Fourth of July Bike Parade at 10 a.m. The parade begins at St. Paul Park and the Town asks that those wishing to participate begin lining up along St. Paul Street between Plyers Mill Road and Oberon Street by 9:45 am. This event is open to all kids, and those young at heart, that wish to decorate their bike, scooter, wagon or stroller and follow a Kensington Volunteer Fire Department truck through the streets of Kensington.
  • In Poolesville, the Polo Grounds off Hughes Road are the place to see the fireworks. Find out more about the town’s celebration, here.
  • In Takoma Park, the Independence Day celebration begins with a parade and caps off at 9:30 p.m. with the town’s fireworks. Find out more here.

In Washington, DC: The grand-daddy of them all will be in Washington, D.C., on the National Mall event each year. A day full of events includes the Independence Day Parade, United States Army Band concert and the Capitol Fourth concert, with the signature event being the fireworks celebration after dark.
