Rockville Little Theatre Productions Recognized With 3 WATCH Awards

Two Rockville Little Theatre productions combine for three WATCH Awards presented Sunday night in Alexandria.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Rockville Theatre Company took home three awards Sunday night at the 2023 Washington Area Theatre Community Honors Awards ceremony at the The Birchmere in Alexandria.

Two actresses in different Rockville Theatre Company productions were recognized for their performances, sharing the award in the outstanding lead actress in a play category. In addition, two set painters shared an award for their work in one of the company's productions.

  • Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play – Lezlie T. Hatcher as “Lena Younger” in "A Raisin in the Sun"
  • Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play – Andrea Spitz as “Charlotte Hay” – Moon Over Buffalo
  • Outstanding Set Painting in a Play – Nancy Carlin & Jennifer Georgia – She Stoops to Conquer

When the nominations for 2023 WATCH Awards were announced in January, productions by three Rockville theatre companies combined for 10 nominations: Rockville Little Theatre (5), Rockville Musical Theatre (3) and Victorian Lyric Opera Company (2).

Reston Community Players was the big winner Sunday night, racking up a combined total of 13 awards for its productions of "A Little Night Music," "The Game's A Foot" and "Bright Star." The company with the next highest number of awards was The Arlington Players, which brought home six awards.
