Rockville Man Arrested for Theft from County Police Seizures

A Rockville man who is a civilian employee of the Montgomery County Police Department was arrested Monday and charged with stealing currency seized by police that he was responsible for cataloging.

Suk "Brian" Ryong Yun, 39, of Eagle Court in Rockville, is charged with one count of theft: $10,000 to under $100,000 and one count of theft scheme: $10,000 to under $100,000.

Yun, a civilian evidence technician, was arrested after a routine inspection and audit of the police department’s monetary seizures during the last week of September, according to a news release. Officers with the department’s Policy and Planning Division found several discrepancies between computerized inventory of seized U.S. currency and actual seizures.

Yun had access to the computerized inventory and the seized money, the release said.

Police allege that Yun manipulated computer inventory records in an attempt to conceal money that he had stolen.

Yun transferred to the police department in August 2010 after working for the county’s Department of Recreation, the release said.

He has been reassigned within the police department and is on administrative leave, in accordance with county personnel regulations. 

Yun posted $15,000 bond and was released from jail on Monday.

Investigators are trying to determine if any additional property has been stolen.
