Rockville Rewind: April 18-22

Schaefer passes away, the courthouse—sans 'death ray' and celebrating Earth Day.

It was a week of remembrances and renewable resources in and around Rockville with the passing of a giant in Maryland politics and observances of Earth Day grabbing the spotlight as county schools paused for spring break and residents observed Passover and Holy Week.

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett on Monday led installed on the roof of the county's Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station—what Leggett called "the county's first large-scale solar project."

Schaefer was remembered as a political titan whose leadership and "do it now" attitude led to many of the public works projects that shaped Baltimore and who left a political legacy that made him a Maryland legend.
