Shop Second-hand. It's good for you & for the environment.
Learn why shopping second-hand is the right thing to do
by Alena Biagas
I have been a dedicated second-hand shopper for most of my adult life. I always look for second-hand before buying anything new.
Buying second-hand is a no-brainer, here’s why:

- You can often find one-of-a-kind items
- Materials tend to be of greater quality
- The items that I buy (for instance, a Cuisinart coffee maker for $13, a new Instant Pot for $35, Ann Taylor clothing for under $10, mid-century furniture for $30-50, Anthropologie décor for $15) are items that I could not afford to buy new.
- High-end china, pots and pans, and glassware (low-end too!)
- Original, signed artwork for under $100
- High-end appliances for a fraction of the retail price
In addition, buying second-hand reduces the great drain on our raw materials and the incredible
amount of waste generated yearly by consumers. It keeps items out of the landfills and funds great causes such as Habitat for Humanity.
