Stoppin' Deer, Restaurant Weeks Near and a Weekend Pick for Your Ears

I had lunch with the guy pictured at the right today. I had left-over Chinese. He had my shrubs. If I could train him to eat only the weeds my wife would be happy.

And now the “natural gardener” edition of “The Rundown”:

• A six-point buck in the front yard seems like the proper occasion to remind folks that the draft report by the city’s White-tailed Deer Management Task Force is out.
  The task force’s recommendations include two that would require changes to city code. One would increase the allowed maximum height of backyard fences from 8 feet to 10 feet. Another, which calls for controlling the deer population through a managed hunt, is not sitting well with some residents and wildlife advocates, The Gazette’s Alison Bryant reported recently.
  The City of Rockville is accepting comments on the recommendations until 5 p.m. on Sept. 9. Submit comments to deertaskforce@rockvillemd.gov.

The latest development proposal near the Twinbrook Metro station would be within the city limits. In “coming-down-the-pike” development news, The Washington Post’s Lori Aratani looks at White Flint redevelopment going forward. Over on Urban Turf, Amanda Abrams isn’t overly impressed with Rockville Town Square, but says to give it time. At The Washington Examiner, Lisa Gartner reports on a member of the Twinbrook Elementary School faculty taking his talents to DC to work with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
