WATCH: Fire Chief Gets Help From Squad In Marriage Proposal

A captain with the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department got help from his squad to propose to his longtime girlfriend just before Christmas.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A captain with the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department got help from his squad to propose to his longtime girlfriend just before Christmas Eve. Firefighters helped Captain Robert James propose to his girlfriend, Kathleen, with a "box alarm" marriage proposal Dec. 24. In a video posted to the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page, fire trucks with their lights and sirens on traveled to Rockville Town Square for the proposal.

Fire trucks blocked off the road near the city center so James could get on one knee and surprise his girlfriend in front of the town's Christmas tree. Music played while firefighters and friends gathered around the tree to watch the happy couple. Kathleen said "yes" after James got down on one knee.

James has provided 14 years of volunteer service in Rockville, officials said.
