World's Flags to Fly Over Rockville

One-hundred and ninety-three flags from United Nation countries are being installed around Rockville.

From the City of Rockville: One-hundred and ninety-three flags from United Nation countries are being installed around Rockville. The idea for the flags emerged out of a town hall meeting, held Feb. 9, part of an ongoing, citywide discussion on diversity. Residents suggested that an international display of flags would not only demonstrate the city's commitment to inclusivity, but colorfully represent Rockville's multicultural appeal.

More than 150 flags were mounted today on light poles throughout the city. The rest will go up over the next six weeks.

In February, Rockville was recognized as the ninth most culturally diverse city in the U.S., according to WalletHub. In cities of equivalent size, Rockville ranked fourth. More than a third of Rockville residents were born outside the U.S., according to Census data.
