18-Year-Old Charged In Killing Of 19-Year-Old In Silver Spring

Getro Banamina, 19, was identified as the man who was killed in a Silver Spring altercation Tuesday morning, Montgomery County Police said.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Dakari Thomas, 18, has been arrested and charged in the death of Getro Banamina, 19, in Silver Spring Tuesday morning.

Montgomery County Police say they responded to a call of a stabbing around 11:30 a.m. on the 900 block of Ellsworth Drive and first found Thomas, who had lacerations to his arms and hands. He had a knife and said he had fought with another man who fled toward Fenton Street, police say.

Police found Banamina on Fenton Street with a stab wound to his chest. He was taken to the hospital, where he died, police said.

On Wednesday, police announced that they had first gotten a warrant for Thomas' arrest on the charge of first degree assault, which changed to first degree murder when Banamina died. Thomas will also be charged with attempted escape, as police say he tried to run as he was escorted to a cop car to be taken to the Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bond.
