5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 13, 2012

Good morning, Silver Spring! Here are five things to know this Friday to help you keep up-to-date about what’s going on in the community:

1. Today should be breezy and partly sunny, with temperatures in the low 40s. Tonight should be partly cloudy, with a low around the mid 20s.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. MEMORIAL WEEKEND FORECAST:

This weekend looks great with mostly sunny weather, with tempertures reaching a high near 40 degrees. In the evening, the temperatures should drop to the low 20s.

2. Shirat HaNefesh's choir-in residence, Kolot HaLev, raises its voice together with the Chancel Choir of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church to honor the memory of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The program starts at 7 p.m.

3. January is Glaucoma Awareness Month. Learn more about prevention and care with Dr. Eric Jan of Mobile Optical Inc, provider of on-site optical services at Springvale Terrace. He will be leading a special "Terrace Talk" today at 2 p.m.
