5 Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 25, 2011

Good morning, Silver Spring! Here are five things to know this Friday, to help you keep up-to-date about what’s going on in the community:

1. Get ready for another sunny day, with temperatures into the mid 60s, according to the National Weather Service. Later on tonight, the skies should be mostly clear with temperatures dropping to the low 40s.

Weekend Forecast:

Throughout the weekend expect sunny days with temperatures reaching as high at the mid 60s and at night temperatures may drop down to the 40s.

2. If you missed it, Native American tribes are pushing for state recognition. Every year around this time, Thanksgiving reminds many Americans of the relationship between Native Americans and Pilgrims who shared a meal hundreds of years ago. But in Maryland, today's Native Americans are not as well-known.

4. Save the date. Three Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board committees meet Monday, Nov. 28 at the Silver Spring Civic Center. The meetings center around the Taste The World in Fenton Village in May of 2012, discussions with local principals, and updates from the Pedestrian Safety and Transportation Committee. The meetings all start at 7:30 p.m.
