Baby Ducks Make a Home at Riderwood

This year 13 ducklings were born.

 

Every spring the residents living at Riderwood can’t wait until their new guests arrive—ducklings.

This year they welcomed 13 ducklings in the courtyard of the Renaissance Gardens extended care neighborhood.

Mallards have mysteriously come for the past few years to give birth to their babies. They then leave by summer to explore new worlds of wonder.

Renaissance Gardens residents and staff are now feeding the ducklings and taking care of them as if they were their adopted pets.

Riderwood’s Wildlife Habitat Management Project is certified under the Wildlife Habitat Council’s Wildlife At Work program. This certification recognizes the partnership between Riderwood residents and the campus’ Grounds Department staff and a commitment to the natural environment

The community has more than enough space on its 120 acres to share with the campus stretching across Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.
