Bethesda Man Shot In Leg A Week Ago Has Died: Police

A 40-year-old Bethesda man has died after being shot last week in Silver Spring, police said.

BETHESDA, MD — A Bethesda man has died after being shot last week in Silver Spring, authorities said.

Derek James McBrayer, 40, was shot in the leg on March 3. In a statement released Tuesday, Montgomery County police said they did not believe the incident was random.

It happened around 5:39 p.m. in the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace. Police said they found McBrayer lying on the sidewalk and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg.

Witnesses told police that they heard gunshots then saw seven to eight men fleeing the scene. Authorities said officers found bullet holes in several vehicles in the parking lot and one in an apartment window.

McBrayer was taken to a hospital where he later died. Police say a homicide investigation is now underway.
