Cakelove Offers More at New Location in Downtown
Cakelove's owner Warren Brown loves the new location on Fenton Street.
Student happy hours, dine-in space and free wifi are all a part of the new look and feel of the famous eatery Cakelove in downtown Silver Spring.
When the space opened up at 8512 Fenton St., the owner Warren Brown said it was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. The new location offers a nice upgrade from the previous one at 935 Ellsworth Drive, he said, where he wasn't getting as much foot traffic as he had hoped for, the visibility of the sweet delights was limited and the direct sunlight was challenging the ability to keep the baked goods at the right temperature.
"Ellsworth [Drive] and Fenton [Street] is kind of the heart of downtown Silver Spring, and where we were at, Ellsworth [Drive] and Georgia [Avenue] was a busy intersection just not a lot of pedestrian gatherings because it's just so busy," he said. "Georgia is must more of a freeway."

Moving wasn't a difficult task for the team, with the help of the Silver Spring leasing office. Once the equipment was moved in, Brown said they kept a majority of the elements that were added by the owner of Fractured Prune, the business that previously occupied the space.
Fractured Prune served uniquely designed donuts with flavors like strawberry shortcake and cinnamon and sugar. The eatery held the location on Fenton Street for a short while.

Brown said once he moved into the new space, he wanted to make sure that he was offering the best experience.
With that in mind, he had the walls painted with a high pigmented pink and blue with a carefully thought-out brown. He also added track lights to better illuminate the display case with the various cakes and cupcakes and added a kiddie table for families and various specials for the community.
