Scammer In Silver Spring Lied, Told A Couple Their Grandson Needed Money For Bail: Police
A man called a Silver Spring couple and fraudulently said their grandson was in jail and needed money for bail. There may be more victims.
SILVER SPRING, MD — A couple in Silver Spring received a call on Nov. 30 from a man saying their grandchild was in jail and needed money to be bailed out. They went to the bank and got the money, telling the man their home address where he could pick it up.
In the meantime, they called their grandson who told them he was not in jail. When the man arrived to pick up the cash, the couple handed him a package without the money in it, took pictures of him and his silver Kia Optima, and called the police.
Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect, car or crime to call the Financial Crimes Section at 240-773-6330 or 240-773-TIPS. They said there may be more victims.
