Identity Confirmed Of Man's Body Found By Hiker In Silver Spring Park

Police identified the man whose body was found​ by a hiker in the Long Branch Stream Valley Park. The death is ruled a homicide.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Police have identified the man whose body was found by a hiker in the Long Branch Stream Valley Park in Silver Spring Wednesday.

At about 11:22 a.m., police received a call from a resident who discovered a body in the park near 8800 Garland Ave. in Silver Spring. Homicide investigators and members of the Maryland National Capitol Park Police Department responded to the scene and found the man's body, police said.

The man has been identified as Cristopher Alfredo Funes Guerra, 20, of Silver Spring. Guerra's family reported him as missing on Sept. 3, police said.

The Medical Examiner's office in Baltimore has ruled the manner of death a homicide and confirmed Guerra's identity, police said.
