Indian Restaurant Expands Despite Slow Economy

Restaurant manager says the recession hasn't negatively affected his business.

Although the economy isn’t doing so well, Lok Tiwari, the manager of —a neighboring business that serves Indian fare—in downtown, says his business is booming so he has expanded.

In a bad economy, “people are still looking for good food and service,” General Manager Lok Tiwari said.

The space next door to his restaurant became available in October when Renee Workman, the owner of éneR Salon, had to move her salon because of a faltering economy and a costly lease. Workman signed the leasing agreement with Katz & Company Property Management over to Tiwari so he could expand his restaurant.

Since the restaurant—located on 944 Wayne Ave.—opened four years ago, it has been one of the few places in downtown serving up Indian cuisine.

Customers visiting will notice additional dining tables, wine racks, and buffet bar for the weekly all-you-can-eat lunch special. They can also look forward to additional dishes on the menu to add extra flare to their experience, Tiwari added.
