Disability advocate joins MoCo Commission on Aging

Easterseals Vice President of Adult Day Services Joins Commission on Aging

Silver Spring, MD —Elizabeth Barnes, Easterseals DC MD VA Vice President, has been appointed to the Commission on Aging for Montgomery County. Her appointment by County Executive Marc Elrich was confirmed for her first three-year term. Barnes brings an intergenerational perspective to the Commission as a representative under the age of 65.

As Vice President of Easterseals Adult Day Services, Barnes has dedicated her career to enriching the lives of seniors, veterans, and adults with disabilities. “I am honored to join the Commission on Aging to expanded opportunities for seniors in the county,” said Barnes. “I look forward to bringing my experience in helping residents age in place with dignity.”

Easterseals Adult Day Services provide a nurturing, cost-effective alternative to nursing home care, allowing participants to remain in their homes and communities. With three locations in Maryland, residents enjoy curb-to-curb transportation for a full day of activities and clinical care. In a 2024 survey, 94% of clients reported an improved quality of life as a result of attending an Easterseals Adult Day Services center.

Barnes’ appointment underscores the shared goals of Easterseals and the Commission on Aging to foster a hopeful, inclusive community where seniors can thrive.

The Commission on Aging plays a pivotal role in advocating for older adults in the county by promoting programs that enhance their quality of life, working to eliminate barriers to full community participation, and encouraging governmental and community responsiveness to their needs.
