July 30: Golden Flame, Poking Fun at Our Neighbors
Here are five things to know today in Silver Spring.

1. YOU SAID IT >> The state government is investing money in a Silver Spring start-up, and this Patch commenter isn't so pleased:
"State programs have been cut, state services have been reduced or stopped, our roads are a mess and O'Money taxes us up the whazoo so he can toss our tax money willy nilly into a startup? Holy crap when does this nightmare end?"
What do you think the government's role should be in business growth? Read the story and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
2. QUICK NOTES >> In Silver Spring chef news, it looks like Pedro Matamoros, the executive chef of the Golden Flame, is buying the restaurant, Bethesda Magazine reports.
3. FUN STUFF >> Sometimes, it's OK to roll our eyes at our downcounty neighbors and say with a sigh, "Only in Bethesda."
Don't forget to keep these on your radar:
4. EVENT >> The Silver Spring Summer Swings Concert Series continues Thursday with a rock & roll cover band called Second Wind. The performance is 7-9 p.m. at Veterans Plaza.
5. EVENT >> Shark Week gets an early start in Silver Spring! Bring your chair or a beach towel and come to Fountain Plaza for a free outdoor screening of Return of Jaws at 9 p.m. on Friday.
