Silver Spring Softball Teams Ready For First Pitch Of State Tournament

Maryland state lacrosse tournament games got underway Wednesday, and local varsity softball teams kick off their 2013 run to the state championship Thursday.

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association announced the brackets Tuesday for its 2013 softball tournament, and a number of local schools are in the dance: Montgomery Blair High School, Northwood High School, Springbrook High School, Paint Branch High School and Blake High School.

4A West Bracket

• No. 2 Blair has a bye for the first round. In the second round, Blair will face the winner of the match between Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Walter Johnson.

4A North Bracket

• No. 8 Springbrook will host No. 9 Paint Branch. The winner will face Sherwood High School in the second round.
• No. 4 Blake will host No. 13 Catonsville.
