SILVER SPRING, MD — A Silver Spring woman is accused of trying to kill her 3-year-old daughter over the weekend.

Anne Catherine Akers, 28, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and first-degree child abuse, according to Montgomery County police.

A relative called 911 around 10:50 a.m. Saturday after finding blood on the floor of Akers' home, police said. When officers arrived, they found blood and a pair of scissors on the floor, as well as Akers suffering from a neck laceration. Police said they took the blanket Akers was holding and found her daughter with a life-threatening neck laceration.
