MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Carmen Facciolo was fired as Montgomery County's civilian assistant police chief amid accusations that he abused his power, according to news reports.

WJLA published an internal police department email Monday confirming that Facciolo no longer worked for the department effective last Sunday.

"Based upon this situation, the Community Resources Bureau has been temporarily suspended until a search for a new Civilian Assistant Chief occurs," the email says. "In the meantime, the Policy and Planning Division will be under the direction of the Management Services Bureau and the Community Engagement Division will be under the Field Services Bureau."

Facciolo was accused of violating several police department policies, including having an officer drive him to a speaking engagement in Wilmington, Delaware with the lights and siren on, according to News7.

A Montgomery County spokesperson told Fox 5 back in June that Facciolo was suspended with pay, but Police Chief Marcus Jones did not provide a reason why at that time, except that it was a personnel matter.

Sources told Fox 5 that Facciolo had responded to a June 2 emergency call for a cardiac arrest incident at a senior living facility on Connecticut Avenue.

Facciolo told a fire and rescue crew to stop working on a patient so that he could do the work and that he asked someone to take a photo of him, Fox 5 reported. A police department spokesperson confirmed that Facciolo had been at the scene of the cardiac arrest incident.

County Executive Marc Elich, who created the civilian assistant police chief position, appointed Facciolo in June 2021. He was later confirmed by the county council.
