News in Review: Maryland Dream Act Passed and Police Need Help with Missing Teen

This week in Silver Spring a 16-year-old teenager is missing, Dream Act Passes, green on the screen with the AFI, Vera J. Katz (a woman who celebrities call on for guidance), Montgomery County Police honors their own and keep a tab on crime in downtown.

1. Montgomery County Police releases their crime statistics this Spring. Last year, there was an average of 40 active gangs in the county, according to the latest data available by Montgomery County Police Department."Gang incidences" only made up 1 percent of overall county crime in 2009.

2. This week Patch featured Helina Meri from CHF International as person who is making a positive change. Meri devotes her professional life to helping poverty stricken and disenfranchised Africans raise their standard of living.

3. Police are asking for help to find a 16-year-old girl who went missing this week. Dashanti Keshell Herring of the 8800 block of Piney Branch Road was last seen at her Piney Branch home on Tuesday at about 10 p.m. She is an African-American female, 4-feet-9-inches tall, weighs 94 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair.

5. The Maryland Dream Act passed in final hours of the legislative session. After a turbulent journey in both the Maryland State House and Senate, legislation allowing illegal immigrants to qualify for in-state college tuition rates passed last night, as the 428th session of the Maryland General Assembly came to a close in Annapolis.
