This week in Silver Spring, Montgomery County Police differ internally on how to count crimes, Safe Silver Spring met with Council President Valerie Ervin, Whiz Kid: Grace Crawford and the Patch crime summary map.
1. When a gunman stormed the Discovery Headquarters building on Sept. 1 and threatened to bomb it, this shook Silver Spring and all of Montgomery County Officer Edward Paden was one of the first police officers inside the building that day. For his act of bravery he has been nominated for "America's Most Wanted" contest to be a Top Cop.

3. Silver Spring residents rallied to save trees in a forest. The McKenney Hills Forest Preservation Group (MHFPG) sponsored a “Save The Forest” rally on the site of Montgomery County Public Schools' McKenney Hills elementary school and the surrounding forest.

5. . The House of Delegates balked Friday on a proposal that would legalize same-sex marriage, sending it back to the Judiciary Committee after more than two hours of debate, and likely killing it for 2011.
