News in Review: Two Arrests and Multiple Charges of Attempted Murder and Gas Prices Take a Small Plunge

This week in Silver Spring  Montgomery County Fire and Rescue deal with two major fires, the talk show queen signed off and joined Discovery Communications network, police arrest two men for various charges of attempted murder, fashion entrepreneur Glenn Jackson brings fabulocity into the area, and keep a tab on crime in downtown.

1. Gas prices lower in time for Memorial Day in Maryland. Gas prices in the area have risen more than a dollar per gallon in the past six months, according to AAA. But in the past seven days, they’ve dropped about 11 cents per gallon.

2. Two fires erupted in downtown Silver Spring. On Tuesday, Construction crews were working on the site for a new medical building when a fire erupted, said a fire and rescue official. Later in the week on Thursday, Fire and Rescue officials received a report that an explosion occurred at the Twin Towers.

3. Glenn Jackson is a well-known producer of fashion shows in the Washington, D.C. area and around the U.S. Jackson is bringing his trademark to Silver Spring with the Bridal Fanfare on Sunday, May 29th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

7. On the eve of the Montgomery County Council’s final vote on the county budget, the state Board of Education ruled on Wednesday that the council was within its authority to reduce spending on county schools.
