1. 1 Killed, 2 Injured In Crash In Silver Spring (patch.com) — Silver Spring residents are reeling after a deadly two-car crash near Good Hope Road and Good Hope Drive left one driver dead and a man and 4-year-old child seriously injured. Montgomery County police say the Acura crossed the center line into an oncoming Ford F-150, and the investigation into what caused the collision is ongoing.
   

2. Dor-Ne Corset Shoppe and TD Bank Closures Hit Downtown Silver Spring (sourceofthespring.com) — Two long-time fixtures of downtown Silver Spring are disappearing, with Dor-Ne Corset Shoppe up for sale as its owners retire and TD Bank closing its Ellsworth Place branch in January. Dor-Ne will shut by May if no buyer emerges, while TD’s closure is part of a broader national downsizing that has already cost the mall an Outback Steakhouse location.
   

3. Board Opts to Continue Studying Silver Spring International Middle School's Future (mymcmedia.org) — Silver Spring families just gained more time to weigh in on the proposed closure of Silver Spring International Middle School and relocation of Sligo Creek Elementary, after the school board paused the plan for further study. Board members cited strong community opposition, concerns about rushed timelines, and the need to better understand enrollment trends before making a final decision.
   

4. Sunflower Bakery's Hanukkah rush helps prepare chefs for life (thebaltimorebanner.com) — A young Silver Spring resident, Michaela Teweles, is learning professional kitchen skills at Rockville’s Sunflower Bakery, which trains adults with learning differences and developmental disabilities. As the kosher bakery powers through its Hanukkah rush, students gain real-world culinary and hospitality experience that can lead to jobs across the region, including closer to Silver Spring.
   

5. Montgomery College Business Student Begins Peace Corps Service in Ghana (sourceofthespring.com) — A Silver Spring resident and Montgomery College business student is heading to Ghana in January to serve as a Peace Corps community health facilitator, representing our area on the global stage. She plans to return to Montgomery College after two years of service, hoping to bring back stronger community health and outreach skills that could ultimately benefit local neighborhoods.
