Driver Killed, 2 Others Seriously Injured In Silver Spring Crash

A Silver Spring man was killed and another driver and a child were seriously injured when a pickup and an Acura RDX collided, police said.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Silver Spring driver was killed and another driver and a child were seriously injured when a Ford F-150 truck and an Acura RDX collided Friday morning, authorities said.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police are investigating the collision that resulted in the death of 41-year-old Tyrone Alexander Chappell Jr. of Silver Spring.

About 9:05 a.m., police and Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Good Hope Road and Good Hope Drive for a collision involving a pickup truck and an Acura.

First responders found Chappell in cardiac arrest. Despite life-saving efforts by police and Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service personnel, Chappell was pronounced dead at the scene, a police news release said.

The adult male driver of the Ford pickup truck and a 4-year-old child were taken to an area hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates that while driving westbound, Chappell's Acura crossed the centerline and struck the pickup in the eastbound lane of Good Hope Road, police said.
