Montgomery County could add $1 million to senior services amid federal cuts (thebanner.com) — Montgomery County leaders gathered at the Silver Spring Civic Building to propose adding $1 million for senior health and support services after federal cuts. The plan would boost senior nutrition, in-home care, and respite care using county reserves. A public hearing is set for Jan. 27, giving Silver Spring residents a chance to weigh in on these changes.
   

2. Vivace Children's Chorus Announces Spring Auditions in Silver Spring (sourceofthespring.com) — Families in Silver Spring can now register kids for spring auditions with the Silver Spring-based Vivace Children’s Chorus, which rehearses Thursday evenings at Colesville Presbyterian Church. Led by acclaimed conductor Dr. Ingrid Lestrud, the program welcomes all experience levels and focuses on musical excellence, confidence, and community connection, with semester and full-year tuition options.
   

3. 5 Arrested In Car Rally Crackdown Across 4 MD Counties (patch.com) — Police disrupted several large illegal car rallies around Maryland, including one planned at a New Hampshire Avenue location in Silver Spring, and arrested multiple teens from Silver Spring on handgun charges. The multi-county task force targeted public roads and parking lots used for dangerous driving exhibitions, leading to five total arrests and several seized weapons.
   

4. Woman struck and killed by 2 hit-and-run drivers in Montgomery County (wjla.com) — Silver Spring District officers are investigating a deadly hit-and-run that killed a 73-year-old woman near Columbia Pike and Fairland Road, just north of Silver Spring. Police say at least two vehicles struck her and then fled. Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen a maroon Toyota Tacoma or an older orange Ford Crown Victoria in the area to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit.
