SILVER SPRING, MD — An operation with federal authorities to arrest a suspect on gun charges was not connected to immigration enforcement, the Montgomery County Police Department said Thursday after receiving questions from the public.

Kofi Aidoo, 32, of Silver Spring was arrested Wednesday on firearms-related charges, including prohibited possession of a firearm, a police news release said.

Aidoo is accused of stealing a handgun from a gun range in Prince George’s County. During the execution of the search warrant, officers recovered a firearm and took Aidoo into custody without incident.

The Montgomery County Department of Police, in collaboration with the Prince George’s County Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives all took part in the search.

Officers from Prince George’s County Police and the ATF staged near the Glenmont United Methodist Church in the 12900 block of Georgia Avenue before serving a residential search warrant.
