Silver Spring Doctor Found Guilty Of Sexually Assaulting 2 Patients

The Maryland doctor also entered into an Alford plea on other fourth-degree sex offenses based on the accusations of eight other patients.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Silver Spring doctor was found guilty of sexual offenses against two of his patients by a Montgomery County jury on Friday, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Ishtiaq Malik, 59, was found guilty of two counts of second-degree rape and two counts of fourth-degree sex offense for assaults on the two patients.

On Monday, Malik appeared before a circuit court judge where he entered into an Alford plea on other fourth-degree sex offenses, one for eight additional victims.

An Alford plea allows a defendant to plead guilty and accept a plea bargain even if they claim they are innocent. An Alford plea is based on a choice to avoid a harsher criminal sentence.

Malik was taken into custody in February 2023 outside his medical practice, the Advanced Walk-In Urgent Care, in Silver Spring. He was accused of groping, inappropriately touching and sexually assaulting two patients during routine examinations.

Following the report of his arrest, the eight additional patients came forward with accusations against Malik, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 12. Malik faces up to 42 years in prison.
