Silver Spring Historian Honored in the Historical Society of the Nation's Capital

McCoy was nominated by Archivist Mary Beth Corrigan for his major role in creating the local historical society.

The founder of the Silver Spring Historical Society, Jerry McCoy, was honored among 19 local individuals/organizations who are making a difference in their community.

The traveling exhibit " Choosing to Participate" is a multimedia presentation that shares the accomplishments of educators, young people and community members. McCoy was nominated by Archivist Mary Beth Corrigan for the local feature of the exhibit, "Upstanders: Profiles of Courage," for his major role in creating and maintaining a local historical society.

"I felt really honored to be not only nominated by a colleague whose job it is to preserve history but by someone who does not even live in Silver Spring," McCoy said.
