Silver Spring Man Arrested In Sunday Homicide, Police Say

SILVER SPRING, MD — A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a Silver Spring resident, according to Montgomery County police.

On Wednesday, Denzel Massamba Kasaka, of Silver Spring, was booked in county jail for first-degree murder, court records show. The slain victim has been identified as 20-year-old Jose Augusto Ruiz.

Around 11:46 p.m. on Sunday, police responded to a report of a man unconscious and bleeding in a parking lot on Avonshire Drive. When officers arrived, they found Ruiz inside a vehicle suffering from stab wounds. Police said he was rushed to a local hospital, where he died.

After speaking to witnesses and obtaining video surveillance, homicide detectives determined that the incident was a result of an argument.

Around 10:40 p.m., Kasaka and Ruiz got into an argument in the parking lot. The argument turned physical and Kasaka stabbed Ruiz, according to police.

Detectives said they do not believe the stabbing was random.
