Silver Spring Man Found Shot To Death Outside Vacant House

SILVER SPRING, MD — Police continue to investigate the death of a Silver Spring man who was found shot to death near a vacant house in Capitol Heights.

Police said Joseph Maurice Ward, 37, of Medway Way was found deceased at about 4:20 p.m. Feb. 14.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of Oates St. in Capitol Heights for a welfare check. They located Ward lying outside a vacant house with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Ward was pronounced dead on the scene. Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and a motive in this case.
