Silver Spring Is Third Most Generous City In The Country, According To GoFundMe

Silver Spring had the third most donations per capita on GoFundMe in the country, the company announced.

SILVER SPRING, MD — GoFundMe, the online fundraising platform, analyzes the donations made on its site each year and announces the most generous cities in the country based on donations. This year, Silver Spring was No. 3 in the United States.

GoFundMe said these three donation campaigns in Silver Silver were particularly notable:

“If 2020 was a year in crisis, 2021 was The Year of Gratitude," said GoFundMe in a news release. "We saw this sentiment echoed throughout the GoFundMe community, with 15 million messages of thank you to and from the community and millions of donors who stepped up to help others every day. ”

Here were the rankings for the most generous cities in the country:

  2. Marietta, GA
  3. Silver Spring, MD
  4. Miami, FL
  5. Alpharetta, GA
  6. Fort Lauderdale, FL
  7. Minneapolis, MN
  8. Olympia, WA
  9. Sarasota, FL
  10. Bradenton, FL

Maryland didn't are the list of the most generous state overall. Those were:

The most generous country in the world was Ireland, for the third year in a row. The "most generous day of the year" was March 28, the most generous donor made 434 separate donations, and about 1 in 3 campaigns were started on behalf of someone else this year.

Some of the top causes for donations were wildfires around the world; Texas storms; "Stop Asian Hate" campaigns in Canada, Australia and the U.K.; Germany floods and Hurricane Ida.
