State Invests in Silver Spring Video Start-Up
The fledgling company simplifies the video creation process online.
The video rental business? Getting weaker by the day. The video production business? On the up-and-up, or so Maryland is betting.
The state is investing $150,000 in ReelGenie, a video production start-up in Silver Spring, Gov. Martin O'Malley announced Monday.
This investment, along with $200,000 for a Baltimore social media firm, was made through the InvestMaryland Program for Maryland startups in high-tech, high-growth fields.

So what does ReelGenie do? It simplifies the video creation process: you feed in the raw material (photos, video clips, music), and ReelGenie quickly assembles it for you. Then you can share it online, download it or buy it as a DVD.
ReelGenie has four employees, but it has plans to use seed money from Maryland and other investors to add staff for marketing, software development and business development.
