Three Schools Going Virtual In Silver Spring For 10 Days

SILVER SPRING, MD — Students at three of Silver Spring's public schools will be learning virtually beginning Thursday and lasting for 10 days, ending on Jan. 31.

Montgomery County Public Schools said that the decision to send students home for school was a combination of several factors, including student and teacher absences, bus route problems, substitute shortages, COVID-19 cases and feedback from a "multistakeholder group" in the school community.

"To prepare for this change in operations, teachers will have one day of preparation where students will participate in remote asynchronous learning," the district said in its announcement. "Full virtual, teacher-led instruction will then take place."

The schools that will be online in Silver Spring are:

• Briggs Chaney Middle School (Silver Spring)
• Glenallan Elementary School (Silver Spring)
• Sargent Shriver Elementary School (Silver Spring)

The other schools in the county that will be closed for 10 days are:

• Beall Elementary School (Rockville)
• Brookhaven Elementary School (Rockville)
• Clopper Mill Elementary School (Germantown)
• Captain James E. Daly Elementary School (Germantown)
• Gaithersburg Elementary School (Gaithersburg)
• Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School (Germantown)
• Lakelands Park Middle School (Gaithersburg)
• Neelsville Middle School (Germantown)
• Paint Branch High School (Burtonsville)
• RICA – John L. Gildner Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents (Rockville)
• Twinbrook Elementary School (Rockville)
• Watkins Mill Elementary School (Montgomery Village)
• Whetstone Elementary School (Montgomery Village)
